The problem
Pro Tools can’t output to multiple audio devices at the same time. We needed to record ISO stems over Dante and monitor through a separate device. With a USB interface on one side and Dante on the other, you could do one or the other.
The proposal I wrote
Replace the USB PreSonus interface with an 8-channel Dante output device:
| Dante outputs | Carries |
|---|---|
| 1–6 | Pro Tools 5.1 mix |
| 7–8 | Windows reference stereo |
All eight feed an SPL SMC monitor controller, so the editor can pick and blend sources at the monitors instead of re-patching.
One device, one clock, and everything shows up on the Dante network.
The later fix
Months later, DVS subscriptions on the suite failed with “No audio data.” Windows had quietly reset the Dante NIC to a Public network profile, which had none of the Dante firewall rules. Switching it back to Private fixed it.
The full troubleshooting path is in the case study: Dante Virtual Soundcard: “No audio data”.
